A Montreal man is seeking permission to launch a class-action lawsuit against a manufacturer of reusable aluminum water bottles, alleging the company made false claims the bottles were free of the chemical bisphenol A, also known as BPA.
The motion, filed in Quebec Superior Court this week by Jeffrey Rosen, noted the federal government concluded in October 2008 that BPA is toxic and proposed a ban on the importation, sale and advertising of baby bottles made with the chemical. The government also set limits on its presence in canned baby food.
