Somewhere between 1980 and today, hoodies became one of the most common clothing staples around. In those 30 years, they have become nearly as ubiquitous as jeans and T-shirts, and their acceptability as casual wear in some ways exceeds the aforemention items. Even the phrase "hoodie" (or "hoody"), unheard before the '90s, is now so common that it's used in catalogs, retail stores and television.
