United Way of North Carolina announced it presented the headquarters employees of Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based Hanesbrands Inc. with the 2008 Employee Spirit award, recognizing the company for having the best employee campaign for its size in North Carolina.
Hanesbrands Inc.’s campaign for United Way raised more than $1.9 million for United Way of Forsyth County, achieving its campaign goal despite an uncertain economic climate.
“The United Way of Forsyth County raised 95 percent of its total campaign goal during 2008, and Hanesbrands employees really came through for us, exceeding their goal for the year,” said Ron Drago, president and CEO, United Way of Forsyth County. “We are extremely grateful for the contribution, and we are truly inspired by the heart and soul that Hanesbrands employees pour into their annual campaign,” he concluded.
It is the second time in three years that Hanesbrands Inc. employees have been honored as running the best campaign in the state representing 2,500 to 5,000 employees. In the past decade, the company has been the largest corporate contributor to United Way of Forsyth County, raising nearly $25 million to support families in need.
“The generosity of Hanesbrands employees—even in tough economic times—shows just how committed they are to helping United Way provide critical services to our community,” said John Marsh, Hanesbrands Inc.’s senior vice president general manager of casual wear and the company’s 2008 United Way campaign chairman. “Each year, our employees embrace the United Way campaign with a passion to lead by example. Our employees truly go the extra mile to help those in need, and I’m extremely proud that United Way of North Carolina has honored them with this award,” Marsh concluded.
Hanesbrands Inc.’s 2008 campaign, held during September and October, included employee pledges, product sales and a corporate donation.
