Continued Hurricane Sandy Updates: Industry Openings and Closures for November 1

Several of the businesses affected by Hurricane Sandy were able to reopen today, but many remain closed or are operating at reduced capacity. Below is a list noting which companies have opened and which have remained closed as of 3:00 p.m. EST today. Notes on each company’s status have been provided where available.

Companies that were closed, but have now opened:

  • Americanna Company—Plymouth, Ma. (Open since Tuesday.)
  • Peerless Umbrella—Newark, N.J. (Open today but remains without phone or Internet. A temporary e-mail has been set up at peerlessumbrella@gmail.com.)
  • Prime Line—Bridgeport, Conn.
  • SanMar—Warehouse in Robbinsville, N.J. (Warehouse is open but the company noted shipments will be impacted by local carriers and advised customers to check with their preferred carrier’s websites for shipping information.)
  • Towel Specialties—Baltimore (Open since Wednesday.)
  • Tex Visions —Carlisle, Pa.

Companies that have remained closed:

  • Bankers Pen—Garfield, N.J. (Offices are without power, but no major damage to manufacturing facilities. The company is experiencing staffing issues due to disrupted public transportation services.)
  • Capco Sportswear—Moonachie, N.J. (Power outage and water damage.)
  • Chocolate Inn/Taylor & Grant—Freeport, N.Y. (Operating under generator power to bring plant and equipment back online. Customers may e-mail all communication to info@taylor-grant.com.)
  • Compass Industries—New York City (Power outage. The company is without full Internet service but is attempting to respond to emails via smartphone. Telephone and fax lines are working.)
  • Gordon Sinclair—New Hyde Park, N.Y. (Per the company’s website: “Please note that our N.Y. office will be closed on November 1 due to Hurricane Sandy. Our GA office is open and will be able to assist you with all questions and concerns. Orders will not be shipping out until power is restored. Our power is out and we do not know when it will be restored. We cannot access [company] email. Please email us at gordonsinclair@gmail.com.”)
  • Mid-Nite Snax—Mineola, N.Y. (Power outage, no phone service. The company remains unable to ship or process orders.)
  • Points of Light—Fairfield, N.J. (Power outage. Building and contents suffered no damage. Key personnel are on-site at the company’s facility and are actively processing orders.)
  • Rainkist Umbrella—Edison, N.J. (Power outage. No damage to facilities.)
  • Waldor Products—Jersey City, N.J. (Power outage. The company did not incur damage to its building.)
