A severe blizzard is expected to affect large parts of the U.S. Northeast Friday and Saturday as a nor'easter moves north up the Atlantic. Rain, ice and snow pelted cities from New York to Boston, with expected snowfall of up to two feet in some areas.
Several cities are taking precautions in face of the potentially historic storm. Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts declared a state of emergency and announced a vehicle ban, asking all drivers to be off the road by 4 p.m. Friday. States of emergency were also declared in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Both UPS and FedEx offices in the affected states have warned customers to expect delayed or canceled service for the weekend. In addition, more than 2,000 flights have also been canceled, with further cancellations expected throughout the day.
