Fruit of the Loom to Shift Clothing Operations to Honduras

Fruit of the Loom, a clothing manufacturing company with its headquarters in the U.S. state of Kentucky, is shifting its operations to Honduras.

The company will close its current manufacturing at its Jamestown plant in stages from June 8, 2014 onwards and all operations are expected to be shut by the end of the year, resulting in a layoff of around 600 workers currently employed at the plant.

All affected employees would be given a 60-day notice, as required under the Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN), the company said.

Apparel Companies Settle Trademark Dispute

A Canadian apparel company has reached a $1 million settlement with Russell Brands and Fruit of the Loom in the relabeling and resale of Jerzees brand sportswear at stores in at least three states.

The agreement ends a dispute between Gildan Activewear Inc., based in Montreal, and the two companies. Under the terms of the agreement, Gildan must stop removing or altering Jerzees labels and tags and must destroy any stock of the sportswear. Gildan also will pay $50,000 in attorney's fees for the two companies.

Russell Brands to Cut 190 Jobs in Restructuring

U.S. sportswear manufacturer Russell Brands said it plans to lay off 190 workers as it looks to restructure its apparel decoration operations in Alexander City, Ala.

The group employs 390 people at its Alexander City apparel decoration facility. Russell Brands, which is a Fruit of the Loom company, said the restructure will not impact its other operations in Alexander City.

"The competitiveness of the apparel market makes for a very difficult business environment and requires that we constantly seek the most cost-effective production available," said Tony Greeson, vice president of manufacturing.

Broder Bros. Hosts Annual Apparel Showcase at Lincoln Financial Field

On Thursday, May 6, 2010 Broder Bros. is hosting an apparel showcase at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field. The showcase, running 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. will feature exhibits, seminars and a reception. Broder Bros. will be giving away prizes and offering tours of the stadium.
