One month after she was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve on the Consumer Product Safety Commission, former U.S. Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle was confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
The Senate approved Buerkle's nomination Thursday. The appointment is for a seven-year term that expires in 2018.
Buerkle, R-Onondaga Hill, said in an interview last month that she was vetted by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's office. McConnell, R-Ky., then recommended Buerkle to the president.
Buerkle, an Auburn native, said the commission's major tasks include upholding the law and reviewing complaints.
