Aldi Spoofs Big-Name Brands With Branded Apparel Capsule, Ends Up Doing It Better

My life has been changed by Aldi. I’m not exaggerating. I moved a few blocks from one last fall, and that’s been my primary shopping destination after years of Whole Foods. Do you know how much money I’m saving?

Enough that I can feel comfortable buying every single item from this Aldi apparel capsule that so accurately spoofs Nike.

Aldi advertised this apparel drop through a variety of social media posts and in-person ads in London’s Leicester Square. According to Adweek, the campaign was meant to make viewers “double take,” and ask themselves if it was really for Aldi, or it was a Nike ad that their brains changed to Aldi because they were just thinking about the savings all the time.

The drop has everything of a modern sportswear/luxury apparel brand: hoodies, socks, boxers, T-shirts. All using the Aldi color scheme but without heavy-handed logo placement. Sure, the ads are spoofing big-name sports brands, but at the end of the day this is just really good design.

The only bummer here? The capsule was only available in the UK. We would buy all of this if it were available in the U.S. Heck, we tried. I would wear this every day to the grocery store to show my appreciation.
