BIC Graphic USA Celebrates Annual Green Achievements
BIC Graphic North America, Clearwater, Fla., parent company of promotional products industry subsidiary BIC Graphic USA, celebrated its company-wide commitment to sustainable development by hosting a “Green Day” event for employees. This year’s Green Day was held on December 8, 2009, with product giveaways from the BIC Ecolutions line of products made from recycled materials and renewable resources. The event was attended by local businesses that promote home energy conservation and the benefits of using eco-friendly products. Cell phone donations were accepted to benefit a charity that provides phones to elderly citizens for emergency use. Hazardous material trucks were on site to collect items that require special disposal (e.g. old paints and batteries). Employees could also make donations to Goodwill and contribute to the recycling effort for old phonebooks.
Employees participated in a “How Green Are You?” quiz and received an entry to win a raffle. The raffle prize included energy-saving light bulbs, L.E.D. holiday lights, eco-friendly cleaning supplies and a water filter to complement the reusable water bottles that were given out. The prize was packaged nicely in an Atchison by BIC messenger bag made with recycled content. In 2009, BIC Graphic USA recycled more than 550 tons of mixed paper, 130 tons of cardboard and 12 tons of metal. Water conservation was equally impressive with savings of more than 41,000 gallons of water. Water use was reduced by the reuse of HVAC condensate in cooling towers.
