Branded Water Bottles Provide Clean Water
A U.K.-based water bottle company is working to provide clean drinking water to Africa through its business. GiveMeTap, founded by Edwin Broni-Mensah, sells BPA-free water bottles that can be filled with free, clean water at participating locations. Proceeds from the water bottles goes toward installation of water pumps in rural areas of Africa.
Broni-Mensah, whose parents were born in Ghana, started GiveMeTap after noticing how difficult it can be to get free tap water from cafes in the U.K. He also took into account that many areas around the world don’t have access to clean drinking water for free.
After purchasing a bottle from GiveMeTap, users can log onto an app that shows participating locations where they can fill up the bottle for free. According to Eco-Business, nearly 800 shops in 150 cities across the world have signed up for the initiative.
GiveMeTap’s water bottles are also available with co-branding options. They can be bought in bulk with a company or group’s logo printed on GiveMeTap bottles, and used as promotional giveaways or employee gifts. According to the article, Tableau Software recently purchased 2,000 plastic bottles for its staff members worldwide.
Proceeds from the bottles help fund water pumps in Ghana, Namibia and Malawi through donations to non-government organizations in Africa. Hydrologists provide input before the water pumps are installed to ensure that the water supply is secure, and a village elders are trained to maintain and repair the pump if necessary.
The bottles cost between $18 and $20 through GiveMeTap’s online store. For more information on GiveMeTap, visit www.givemetap.co.uk.
