Busch Light Goes 'Willy Wonka' With Golden Can Promotional Puzzle
When we were kids, we always watched “Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” and thought about how much fun it would be to find a golden ticket in a chocolate bar. For me personally, I grew up right outside of Hershey, Pa., so there wasn’t some mystery about the local chocolate factory. Chocolate World was free and 15 minutes away. But as an adult, I still have that spark of imagination where I want to win the big sweepstakes and get whisked away to some magical location.
For adults who work a 9-5, any vacation is magical enough, and puzzles are enough to keep us occupied for hours on end. We also like a beer from time to time. So, Busch Light really nailed this promotion.
The beer brand teased its promotional puzzle last week on Twitter. If you buy the “Busch Medallion puzzle,” which is a 520 piece puzzle that culminates in a picture of the “Busch Guy” in a very lovely outdoor locale, you could win a $5,000 vacation “to the Great Outdoors.” Even if you don’t win, $5 from every puzzle purchase goes to the National Forests foundation.
An indoor activity could lead to amazing outdoor adventures!

Who doesn’t want to win a vacation? And a 520 piece puzzle isn’t a humongous ask. But look, before you get too excited, you don’t win just for finishing the puzzle. Busch Light isn’t in the business of participation trophies. Just like Charlie finding that golden ticket that changed his life, folks who buy this puzzle will have to be on the lookout for the Busch Guy holding a golden can in the finished picture.
Puzzles are a great promotional item, because they force people to spend a lot of time looking at an advertisement. And with all of the effort it takes to complete, people aren’t just going to throw it away as soon as they’re done. Some people glue them together and frame them. That’s long-lasting brand visibility, baby! If you’re already a Busch Light fan, this would be a great addition to your home bar, garage or whatever. And if you are one of the lucky 50 who get the golden can version, then it’s a lifelong keepsake that you can frame right next to photos of your vacation.
Other big companies have used this quarantine as an opportunity to get in on the puzzle game. McDonald’s had a few over in Europe, and Heinz went the truly sadistic route and made a big puzzle that is just all red. That’s crazy. But, you know, people love a challenge!
If you’re up for the Busch Light challenge, you have until July 31 to complete the puzzle and send in a picture of your winning version. And if you don’t win, you still got to do a puzzle and kill some time. Maybe you even cracked open a Busch Light while you worked on it, or waited until you were done to celebrate.
