Sharon, Massachusetts-based Charles River Apparel, a leading manufacturer of performance apparel, has donated proceeds from its Sept. 7 event where members of the management team, including president and owner Barry Lipsett, volunteered to be “dunked” for a cure by employees. The money raised from the event went to the Wellness Warriors, a non-profit paddling support team for men and women diagnosed with various types of cancer. The team includes more than 50 members who participate in a variety of dragon boat races on the east coast. The group is run entirely by volunteers with membership open to both cancer survivors and caregivers.
Proceeds from the dunk tank were more than $150. In addition, the company purchased tickets to the Wellness Warriors Halloween Fundraiser to be held later this month. More than 30 employees from Charles River Apparel will attend the event in support of the group.
“Our deep commitment to this special group is felt company-wide,” said Kate Souza, public relations specialist for Charles River Apparel. “While most companies focus on cancer-related causes in the month of October, we make supporting the Wellness Warriors a priority year round. We could not be more thrilled with the outcome and thank our management team for ‘braving the tank’ for such an important cause.”
Charles River Apparel is a long-time supporter of cancer research and the Wellness Warriors. The company’s Be Pink Proud program donates a portion of sales to breast cancer research and supports a variety of cancer organizations year-round. In addition to providing free office space and marketing support to the team, Charles River Apparel is the official apparel sponsor of the Wellness Warriors. Lipsett also sits on the board of directors. This past spring, the company donated a new boat to the team and held a special ceremony to bless the new dragon boat.
