Charles River Apparel to Support Community Rowing Programs
On Dec. 6, 2013, Charles River Apparel, Sharon, Mass., a family-owned apparel manufacturer for men, women and children, announced a 3-year, $250,000 partnership with growing nonprofit Community Rowing Inc. of Brighton, Mass. The partnership will benefit several components of CRI's youth programs that include Girls Row Boston, Boys Row Boston and Let's Row Boston. Each of these programs provides avenues for athletic development and personal growth as well as introduces new rowers to the sport, offer training for competitive rowers, and supports the under-represented within rowing.
Barry Lipsett, president and owner of Charles River Apparel, bases his company's business philosophy on the essential values of rowing-perseverance, determination, and above all, teamwork. "Charles River Apparel greatly values the efforts of Community Rowing to help children, teenagers, and adults live a more active lifestyle and gain confidence through the sport of rowing," said Lipsett. "Through this partnership, we hope to form lasting bonds with those at Community Rowing and help spread the word about the increasingly popular world of rowing for recreation and fitness."
Community Rowing members and participants of these programs include approximately 2,500 Boston public school students across 18 Boston public schools. While many Boston boys and girls row on the Charles River, hundreds more participate in fitness rowing on indoor rowing machines, which Community Rowing supplies to the schools throughout the year.
"We are super-excited to be in this new relationship with a leading producer of performance apparel," said Bruce Harold Smith, executive director of Community Rowing Inc. "Charles River Apparel's support of CRI will benefit thousands of Boston Public School students who will be comfortable and safe as they work out and enjoy the life-changing benefits of rowing."
