Department of Labor Appeals Overtime Ruling
The Department of Labor filed a notice of appeal to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Thursday, the same day the new rule was set to take effect, according to NPR.
"That injunction was granted to some large business and Republican governors who had colluded to try to disrupt the implementation of this rule, and essentially continue to take advantage of more than 4 million of the hardest-working Americans," White House spokesman Josh Earnest told NPR.
Earnest alluded to the 21-state coalition that worked to block the rule, lead by Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt.
Despite the Obama administration's efforts, the fate of the rule is still uncertain. In the event that it wins the appeal, the incoming Trump administration already has threatened to scrap it, according to NPR.
