Ed Begley Jr. Gets Green With Geiger
As a participant in the Living and Building Green Event at the St. Louis Community College this October, Judie Meyer of Lewiston, Maine-based Geiger, took steps to insure that smart choices are available for marketing. Meyers was one of 30 exhibitors providing healthier options for Mother Earth while meeting consumer and business needs.
In addition, Ed Begley, Jr. an actor/ environmentalist, My Green Cottage Spokesperson and co-star of the hit TV show “Living with Ed,” discussed new and remodeled residential home strategies for going green at the event. Local St. Louis green-build home designers, builders, realtors and architects were also present.
As a company, Geiger significantly reduced its energy consumption by modifying boilers and installing high-efficiency lights and HVAC systems. The changes will result in reducing electricity usage by 580,000 kilowatt hours annually, with an estimated savings of $87,000 each year while also keeping 377 tons of greenhouse gases out of the air. This is the equivalent of taking 74 cars off the road.
It is Geiger’s goal to be green in all aspects of manufacturing, from using soy-based inks to committing to waste reduction. Every year, approximately 230 tons of high-grade paper is recycled in its offices and factory. Geiger is active in promoting and providing education throughout the company and the promotional products industry.
