Newest iPhone 8 Leak Shows Lightning Jack, Not USB-C
We admit it: Nobody is perfect, not even us. Everyone makes mistakes, especially when it comes to predicting the future of smartphone technology and what features certain items will or won't include. We bet pretty hard on the future of USB-C technology in the newest installment of the iPhone, but, due to some pretty reliable-looking leaks, we have to say that we were wrong.
Based on a leak from MobileFun (which Forbes holds in high regard), the new iPhone 8 seems to follow what a lot of commentators expected: slightly larger in size, edge-to-edge screen display and (not surprisingly) still no headphone jack.
Where we used clues from the past, like Apple's Macbook Pro designs, as well as simple knowledge that USB-C technology is growing in popularity, we felt fairly confident that Apple would ditch its Lightning connection in favor of the USB-C.
So, for those making power cables with Lightning technology, you don't need to worry about items being obsolete just yet. For companies selling smartphone cases, this leak provides a pretty good idea about what shapes cases will be, how big the camera area is, etc.
We'll just have to wait until the official unveil to get all of the details.
