Michigan Bans Plastic Bag Bans
It happened—Michigan actually passed a ban on plastic bag bans. We've followed this story since September, when this was still in the beginning stages. Now, The Washington Post is reporting that the ban is an official law.
Michigan Lt. Gov. Brian Calley signed the public act into law on Dec. 29, since Gov. Rick Snyder is on vacation, which gives Calley the authority to sign bills into law.
The new law bans local ordinances that would regulate the use of plastic bags, as well as cups, bottles and other packaging.
While Michigan is banning plastic bag bans, other cities and countries have made efforts to do the opposite. Just recently, Boston and Minneapolis have announced their plans to move forward with plastic bag bans in 2017.
For those suppliers and distributors doing business in Michigan, it seems you can rest easy on plastic bag worries. However, it might be time to shift your business away from the disposable bags, since plastic bag bans are gaining steam, practically, everywhere else.
