Numo Introduces Recycled Beverage Insulators
Numo Manufacturing, based in Kaufman, Texas, introduced a new line of can and bottle coolies made from 15 percent post-consumer content. “Our recycled Eco Coolies are of such high quality that it is hard to imagine that they are made from tires,” said Tracy Moore, Numo’s national sales manager. “Our engineers spent months experimenting with different material options, and we are very pleased to provide distributors with a product that meets expectations.”
Numo estimated that 8,000 Eco Coolies can be made from one recycled tire and if 10 percent of the the company’s coolie business shifts to the new material the result would be 375 less tires in Texas landfills each year.
While the Eco Coolie line is Numo’s first green product, it is by no means the only step the company has taken to become more environmentally friendly. Within the last year, the company has made significant investments in more efficient lighting and air conditioning, as well as implementing a recycling program.
Chris Van Meter, Numo’s general manager, said the savings associated with the upgrades to the 200,000 square foot facility in the first year alone are projected to exceed $40,000. “After completing an energy audit it became clear that the Kaufman facility stood to benefit greatly from more efficient lighting and cooling technology,” commented Van Meter. The company’s Edinburg facility is now undergoing a similar upgrade.
“We share our customers’ commitment to the environment and believe introducing the Eco Coolie line is a step in the right direction. Implementing a recycling program [and] upgrading our facilities are steps in the right direction,” concluded Moore.
