Penn State Ends Marketing Deal With JanSport Over Bangladesh Accord
Penn State University has cut ties with its official apparel manufacturer JanSport, after the company did not sign the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh. The Daily Collegian reported that the university sent a letter to JanSport, giving the company 90 days to sign the accord.
Penn State's vice president for student affairs Damon Sims told The Daily Collegian that JanSport did not think it should have to sign the accord because its products are made in the U.S. Sims said that due to JanSport's relationship to VF Corp., which still has a presence in Bangladesh, it is still subject to the accord.
Deanna Nagle, president of Penn State United Students Against Sweatshops, said that the university had previously ended marketing agreements with brands sold under other VF labels in March of 2014 because they did not sign the accord.
