PGA Championship Hints at What's Coming In Golf Apparel
The PGA Championship is taking place Aug. 9-12 at Bellerive Country Club in Town and Country, Mo., so that means we only have one thing on our minds: golf apparel. (Admittedly, we also have donuts on our minds, so it's more like two things).
Already there are expectations that hat sales alone will surpass $2 million. The mega merchandise tent sells everything from branded dart boards to Christmas ornaments, and attendees are sure to stock up on the apparel items branded with the "100th PGA Championship" logo. Also, we spotted an Adidas "Talk Birdie To Me" T-shirt in the merchandise photos, and we always support good golf wordplay.
Aside from the merchandise tent, we're also very interested in what the players themselves will be sporting for their ensembles. It's safe to say these looks will dictate what's on the horizon for golf apparel trends, so it's important that our promotional apparel suppliers and distributors take note. Thankfully, Golf Digest has a preview for us.
1. Shades of Blue
Dustin Johnson will reportedly stick with his winning shades of blue. On Thursday, he is expected to wear an Adidas three-stripe heather blocked polo. On Friday, he will go with a classic navy golf shirt. Come the weekend, DJ will switch things up with a bright blue golf shirt with gray stripes.
2. Pastel Golf Apparel
Justin Thomas is going all in on the pastel color scheme for his PGA championship look. He'll begin in a pair of Ralph Lauren 5 Pocket Performance Chino Pants with a white Solid Vintage Lisle golf shirt. Classic and simple. For the next look, he'll go with a pink chino pant and a striped Performance Lisle golf shirt.

Then, he'll decide to have a little fun with a bandana-patterned Ralph Lauren Lux Jersey Polo and white chinos. The bandana pattern is, um, interesting, but it's an on-trend choice that we haven't seen on the green yet.
Jordan Spieth is going all in on the gradient look with his Under Armour golf shirt. Rather than pairing it with a light pant for a seamless ombre look, he's making a bold statement in navy tapered pants.
4. Camo Golf Apparel
While the blue camo look is limited to Nike's golf shoe at this point in time, it's something to keep on your trend watch for future apparel looks. The blue camo is a sleek pattern sure to make waves on the golf course.

These looks might be a deviation from Phil Mickelson's golf dress shirt, but we think these outfits are a little more warm weather-friendly.
