Presidential Campaigns Put Promotional Products in the Spotlight
CNN's Friday article comes as a result of the U.S. Olympic Committee's (USOC) latest fumble, when it was discovered that the official Team USA uniforms for the 2012 Olympics in London had been manufactured in China. American fashion label Ralph Lauren had designed and provided the opening and closing ceremony uniforms as part of its USOC sponsorship.
This isn't the first time that the source of presidential promotions has come into question. Last August, ABC News ran an investigation on all of the then-current presidential candidates to see where they sourced their merchandise. Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum and Herman Cain were all revealed to use T-shirts produced overseas. Even then, the Obama and Romeny campaigns were selling T-shirts bearing tags saying "Made in America."
