What's a Green Flash, Anyway? 4 Things You Missed at Promo Marketing's San Diego Power Meeting
We’re still trying to process the fact that our San Diego Power Meeting was the second to last one of the year (and that we’re only three months away from 2020). Where has the time gone? If you’ve been keeping up with our Instagram page, @Promo_Marketing, then you’d know what we were up to for a week in mid September.
If you weren't fortunate enough to attend, here are four highlights from one of our best Power Meetings yet.
Promo Marketing teamed up with the crew over at PromoCorner to bring distributors a one-day workshop called PromoMBA, where Kirby Hasseman, Bill Petrie and Paul Kiewet led a day's worth of interactive education sessions. The event ran from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with networking breaks and a closing Q&A. Those who attended know firsthand how beneficial and engaging it was. And, this won’t be the last PromoMBA workshop. (More on that later.)
2. The Green Flash
One of our distributor friends mentioned that the green flash, while rare, is something to watch out for in California, and we’d be lying if we said we weren't hoping to catch even the tiniest glimpse of it in San Diego. (Here’s a video of it in case you have no idea what the heck the green flash is.)
Essentially, it’s a quick pop of emerald green that happens right as the sun is completely setting. And, on the second night of San Diego Power Meeting, we had front row seats to attempt to watch it at WaterBar San Diego.
That combined with the food, drinks and floor-to-ceiling open windows made for an amazing post-meeting experience.
Were we a few feet from dolphins and orcas? Heck yes we were! Promo Marketing went all out on our final night in San Diego. One of the many must-do activities in the city is SeaWorld, and we couldn’t turn down the opportunity to hang out with some of the coolest animals on the planet.
4. Endless Networking Opportunities
Power Meetings are designed to allow distributors and suppliers the one-on-one time to really explore opportunities, and that’s exactly what happened here in San Diego. In addition to the actual meetings, the breakfasts, lunches and dinners are all bonus time for networking with new suppliers and distributors. Plus, it's always in an awesome location.
Check out some of the comments from both supplier and distributor attendees!
“Connecting the brightest distributors to the best industry suppliers can be a challenge," said Alex Morin, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Debco. "But, when Promo Marketing does it, they do it with style. The recent Power Meetings, held in San Diego, were a massive benefit to my business. Having one-on-one discussions with such high caliber distributors allows our company to forge relationships and help create meaningful wins for all parties.”
“The Promo Power Meetings are a way to connect with suppliers in a format more conducive to realizing tangible solutions," said Ben Korn, owner and distributor, Safeguard. "Spending 20 minutes in each meeting is a more in-depth dive into ideas for specific client industries and new offerings than is possible at a trade show. The fact that it’s held in San Diego is pretty awesome too!”
“I love power meetings, [and] if you have not attended, you should," said Amanda Clay, vice president of sales, Walker-Clay Inc. "For me, it is 2.5 days where I completely focus on collaborating with suppliers. The trade show setting is hard to get one-on-one time with the number of attendees vying for time. I get a chance to see some of my preferred vendors, however, peppered in are some vendors I don't normally have time to meet with. I've met some fantastic new vendors, celebrities, distributor friends and strengthened relationships with preferred vendors at Power Meetings. These meetings tend to be less product-focused and more strategic. I have time to properly connect with all vendors as well as can follow up with each of them versus meeting with so many, there is no way for me to stay connected.”
“It was a great week in San Diego," said Brandon Westmoreland, sales manager, National Banner Co. "Here’s a fun story for you: I was sitting at breakfast one morning during the event with a distributor I had met with the day before. While we were having breakfast, he received a quote request from a customer. Although it was a small project, I was able to provide pricing and information to the distributor. All while we were having breakfast!”
