After dinner I powered up my PlayStation 3 (aka the Netflix machine) and watched the first season. The drama, the British accents, the McGonagall—I was hooked. I'm unfamiliar with fashion trends that predate the 20th century, but I became enamored by the clothes and accessories worn on the show. I wanted everything, and after talking to my friends I realized I wasn't the only one. Floral patterns, lace, length, pins, embellishments and extravagance are all making their way into the fashion world via Maggie Smith and her counterparts.
