Roanoke, Virginia-based Magnets USA announced today it has been named the 2010 Small Business of the Year by The Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Development Center. The award was presented at the chamber's annual awards banquet at the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center on Oct. 5. The company also was the Small Business Awards winner in the Business to Business Services category.
Magnets USA, a Roanoke-based manufacturer employing 60 people at its 27,000-square-foot location, designs, produces and sells promotional magnets. "Magnets USA has been helping customers market themselves better since 1992 with our innovative, quality products and personal customer service,” said Dale Turner, founder and vice president of sales and marketing for Magnets USA. “These awards are another affirmation that we’re providing what people want and need,” he added.
Joyce Waugh, president of The Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, said a combination of Magnets USA's growth in sales and employees, staying power, innovative approaches to capturing new markets and community involvement impressed a selection committee of local businesspeople.
To be eligible for the chamber's Small Business of the Year award, a company must be at least 3 years old and meet U.S. Small Business Administration standards. The Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce says that of its more than 1,200 member firms, 99 percent are small businesses.
