Zak Designs, Airway Heights, Wash., is recalling 178,000 children's water bottles that were sold at Target stores. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the inner plastic straw in the flip-top can break, posing a choking hazard.
The 26 oz. water bottles were sold exclusively at Target as part of a "Back to College" promotion. The water bottles feature popular cartoon characters, such as Minions, Batman, Spiderman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The affected bottles have "14158" and "Zak Designs" embossed on the bottom. Bottles with a black inner straw and black twist-off cap are not included in the recall.
Zak Designs received nine reports of the inner plastic straw breaking, including seven instances of children spitting out plastic fragments. No injuries have been reported, however.
The CPSC recommended that consumers immediately stop using the bottles, and contact Zak Designs for instructions on receiving a replacement cap with straw, free of charge.
