G-III Apparel Profit Falls 13 Percent, Firm Ups Outlook

G-III Apparel Group Ltd.'s fiscal second-quarter earnings fell 13 percent as charges related to its acquisition of a luxury resort brand and higher costs masked a rise in sales.

The company raised its full-year outlook, now forecasting per-share earnings of $2.68 to $2.78 and sales of $1.41 billion, compared with its previous guidance of earnings between $2.62 and $2.72 a share and $1.35 billion in sales.

American Apparel Shares Rise After Strong August

Shares of American Apparel Inc. rose last Thursday after the retailer said a key sales figure increased by 24 percent in August.

The Los Angeles-based company said the increase included a 24 percent boost from its retail stores and a 19 percent increase from its online store for the four-week period ended Aug. 28. The figure is a key metric because it strips out the impact of newly opened and closed locations.

CEO Dov Charney said the performance was driven by growth across almost all major market and product categories.

Gildan CEO to Sell 28 Percent of Shares in Company

The CEO of Gildan Activewear, Glenn Chamandy, has entered into share disposition plan to sell up to 28 percent of his stock over a two-year period beginning in December. Chamandy will sell as many as 2.75 million shares by 2014.
