Cintas Profit Dips Slightly as Costs Rise

Net income dipped nearly 2 percent for Cintas Corp. in its fiscal third quarter despite posting record quarterly revenue.

Mason-based Cintas said it had a profit of $74.7 million, or 60 cents per share, in its third quarter ended Feb. 28. Operating income was $133 million, down 3.3 percent from a year ago, as its costs and expenses rose.

Revenue was up 6.3 percent to $1.08 billion in the third quarter ended Feb. 28, compared to the third quarter in 2012. Net income from the firm's uniform direct sales segment was up 11 percent from the previous third quarter.

Revenue for the first quarter was $1.05 billion, representing a 3.4 percent increase compared to last year's first quarter. Organic growth, which adjusts for the impact of acquisitions, compared to last year's first quarter, was 3.2 percent.

OSHA Recognizes Cintas with Highest Safety Designation

Cintas Corporation announced that its uniform rental facility in Charlotte, N.C. has received Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) "Star" status from the North Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). VPP "Star" status is the state's highest recognition for the practice of and commitment to exemplary occupational safety and health.

"You've joined a very exclusive family in North Carolina today," said Cherie Berry, commissioner of N.C. Department of Labor during the official flag-raising ceremony. "Out of about 220,000 businesses in the state, only 137 companies have achieved the Carolina star. You are very special people and you should be very proud."
