Richmond, Virginia-based MeadWestvaco Corporation announced in an effort to streamline costs and improve operational efficiencies, it will discontinue operations at its MWV Beverage Media Packaging plant in Grover, North Carolina. The facility produces packaging for the media and entertainment industry. Some production at this facility will transfer to other MWV Packaging plants, and the company’s capacity to supply these products will not be affected. Sales from continuing operations increased 8 percent to $1.81 billion in the third quarter of 2008 compared to $1.68 billion in the third quarter of 2007. Overall sales increased due to growth in bleached board; home, garden and beverage packaging; as well as improved pricing across all businesses.
