In order to provide production employees relief from high gas prices, Selco announced it has shifted production to a four-day work week. By eliminating one day of travel per week for the employees, the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based company will save 20 percent in transportation costs. Company employee Susan Cartwright stated, “It saves gas money and I enjoy the extra time to take care of personal things.” Her coworker, Kim Domres added, “The extra day I can spend time with family.” Even though production will be operating four days, total production hours, on-time shipping and sample requests will continue to be maintained. The Selco Companies, based in Tulsa, Okla., has completed installation of a new phone system, which will allow distributors easier access to Selco personnel. “Due to the large volume of calls, we wanted to make it easier for distributors to contact Selco, but also the specific person they want to speak with. The new system will allow direct access to key company contacts, as well as new and improved voice mail capabilities,” said Tiffany Jones, customer service manager. Eunice Seligson, widow of the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based The Selco Companies founder, Jack Seligson, passed away Feb. 24 at the age of 95 in Oklahoma City. Eunice moved to Oklahoma City in 1934 and opened Weber’s Jewelers, which later became Selco, a chain of 47 stores including Peacocks, Kays and Cardan & Co. In 1961, Larry Abels, Eunice’s son-in-law saw the opportunity to sell custom watches and in 1965 industry supplier Selco became the “Original Logo Watch Company,” the first watch company to enter the promotional products industry.
