Funny Videos Sell
Adding humor to your video ads can be a profitable move. Bottom line: People buy from companies they like. Don't get me wrong, what your company sells is extremely important, but if you lack personality, people could fail to remember you.
With that being said, the increasing amount of videos used by companies is making it harder and harder for one single video to stand out. It needs to be different. It needs to bring something unexpected to the table. Everyone I've met likes to laugh; Having a humorous video for clients to see is a seemingly bold, yet safe move to make. Just keep this in mind: Funny video ads that stand out for the better are made funny on purpose, so you can't mock them. If you do mock them, you can't offend them; They've already made fun of themselves first. (I didn't mean for this to turn into a personal problem. *Reflects back to the ninth grade*)
Along with big companies (see New York Post's 7 of the Funniest Commercials of the Year), the promotional product industry is dipping its toes into humorous video ads as well. Prime Line's Mobile Device Pockets and Swanky Pens videos below make fun of infomercials while sprinkling selling points into the entertainment.
To wrap up my post, here is a semi-disturbing video ad from the '70s. I'm assuming this wasn't made funny on purpose (hence the word "disturbing"), so don't do this:
Goodbye Earl Shieb, hello future nightmares. Riiiight?
