Grease Is the (Promotional) Word
It was with great hesitation that I tuned into "Grease: Live" on Fox last week. Don't get me wrong—I love the "Grease" movie—but I assumed this new version could never live up to my favorite childhood movie. However, three seconds into the opening credits of Jessie J singing "Grease Is the Word," and I was annoying my roommates by singing along. My inner child was singing and dancing all night long. And apparently I wasn't the only one—12.18 million viewers tuned in for the program.
Of course, this led me to wonder: Is "Grease" the next big trend to make a resurgence? Everyone is so consumed with '90s throwback fashion that it might be time people threw it way back to the '50s. As I watched Fox's production, I kept wishing '50s fashion would come back in style—poodle skirts, letterman jackets, vintage gym T-shirts—it's a treasure trove just waiting for its revival.
Perhaps it's time the promotional products industry leads the trend to give those 12.18 million viewers what they want. And with a variety of products already available, it's easy to do just that.
Here are my picks for Pink Ladies- and Thunderbird-inspired promotional products.
The quintessential '50s look, the letterman jacket, was the best way to show off your sports accolades. Full of school spirit, this Fleece Letterman Jacket from SanMar is ready for bonfires or a night at the drive-in movie theater. And in the words of Principal McGee: "If you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter."
We all know Rizzo was the essence of '50s cool, and part of her signature style was her cat-eye sunglasses. Your end-users can be part of the Pink Ladies with these Large Cateye Frame Sunglasses from College Glasses.
Pink Ladies Jackets
Speaking of Rizzo, she never left her home without her Pink Ladies jacket. This Augusta Adult Nylon Coaches Jacket in pink from Atlantic Coast Cotton is a remix on the classic staple, and it's ready for your branding.
For that extra level of Sandra Dee sophistication, this Cultured Pearl Necklace from Partners for Incentives can be the jewelry staple in any '50s throwback outfit. Your clients will appreciate such a thoughtful gift.
The Thunderbirds wouldn't be caught roaming their high school halls without their prized leather jackets, and your clients will appreciate the fashion staple too. This Men's Retro Jacket from Nucom Burk's Bay will keep end-users warm while they're heading to the sock hop.
